Welcome to Year 6
Our topic for this term is EXTREME EARTH
In Year 6 this term we are looking at a different way of approaching homework. Hopefully this will help the children to get into a good routine for the core activities that help to reinforce and practise key skills and then have a choice with the other activities that they do. They will have a homework log to help them keep a track of their weekly learning.
Core homework task - these activities are to reinforce and consolidate learning and should be done weekly. The homework log should be signed by parents to show that these activities have taken place. The school will check if MyMaths has been completed.
Regular reading, practising of spellings and consolidation of maths learning makes a significant difference to whether the children meet expected standards. These activities are designed to help your child be on track for expected standards.
On a weekly basis, children should complete:
|1)||Reading 3 times a week which is recorded by the child and signed by the parent in the new homework diary (reading every day is definitely encouraged).|
|2)||Spelling practice: New words given on a Thursday and tested on a Tuesday. Scores of the test will be recorded in the H/W diary.|
|3)||MyMaths - set on a Thursday and links to learning that is currently being taught in the class.|
|4)||Times tables - 3x10 minutes - this can be done using MyMaths or a multitude of apps and games as well as writing them out.|
These weekly Homework tasks are set on Thursday and should be returned by the following Tuesday unless specified in the task.
In addition to this your child is asked to complete at least one of the extended homework tasks every half term. Please see options on the sheet below.
PE Days - Your child should have a PE kit in school every day, their named kit bag and all items of clothing should also be named.
A note is required if your child is unable to do PE for any reason.
